Dermatology Consultant

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Dermatology Consultant for a long-term position in Somerset.
The successful candidate will work 10 programmed activities per week and provide specialist dermatology services across outpatient, inpatient, and multidisciplinary settings. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care while contributing to the development and improvement of dermatology services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for patients with a wide range of dermatological conditions.
- Manage patients with inflammatory skin diseases, skin infections, autoimmune conditions, acne, eczema, psoriasis, and suspected skin cancers.
- Conduct outpatient dermatology clinics and provide specialist advice for inpatient referrals where required.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic dermatology procedures within professional competence.
- Assess skin lesions and arrange appropriate investigations, biopsies, treatments, or referrals.
- Develop individualised treatment plans based on clinical findings and current best practice.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including skin cancer discussions where required.
- Work collaboratively with dermatology nurses, surgeons, pathologists, oncologists, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals.
- Provide clinical supervision, guidance, and support to junior doctors and other members of the clinical team.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records.
- Contribute to clinical audits, service improvement, governance, teaching, and professional development activities.
- Ensure all clinical practice complies with GMC standards, safeguarding requirements, local policies, and national dermatology guidance.
Candidate Requirements
- Full registration with the General Medical Council and a current licence to practise.
- Specialist experience in dermatology at Consultant level.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for specialist registration.
- Strong diagnostic, clinical decision-making, and patient management skills.
- Experience managing a broad range of dermatological conditions.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient safety and clinical governance.
