Job Title: Community Children’s Occupational Therapy Nurse


  • Training in sensory integration of benefit
  • Tribunal experience of benefit
  • Experience in delivering training to large audiences (teaching staff/parents) would also be of benefit


Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide responsive and accessible Occupational Therapy to children referred to the service, in the most appropriate environment, Child Development Centre, special school, mainstream school and other community settings for children aged 0-18.
  • To support leadership to develop occupational therapy input to the SEN tribunal service, working towards a tiered model of service delivery to support children and young people.
  • A basic understanding of psychiatric illnesses, risk assessment, care planning, the Mental Health Act, de-escalation principles and positive engagement is required. It is also essential to have well-developed communication skills to be an effective clinician and a team player.
  • to demonstrate your ability to effectively manage a caseload in a busy ward and develop, plan and evaluate care provision appropriate to the clients’ needs in a holistic person-centered approach.
  • will be involved in the coordinating and the development of the 7-day therapeutic activity schedule. Some of the established groups on the ward include karaoke, smoothie making groups and creative groups
  • an opportunity to work collaboratively with members of the ward team and the wider Occupational Therapy service across the inpatient wards
  • The Inpatient Occupational Therapy team meet regularly to review practice in line with the Occupational Therapy pathway, provide support to one another and to share good practice
  • Effectively utilize and engage in the process of Supervision.
  • To have an awareness of assessing/ managing/preventing risk in the working environment, with an ability to relate knowledge of physical health to mental health setting.
